For the last outing of the 2006 season Team Cameron were invited to race at the annual Sidecar Burn-up races at the quaint Lydden Circuit Nr Dover.
Saturday saw a timed qualifying session of which Rob and Andy manage to secure pole position and two races.
The first being held in tricky damp/wet conditions. They managed to win this without too many problems. For the second race the weather was a little dryer but not ideal conditions. A decision was made and some alterations were done to the gearing of the teams BMW outfit. This enabled a quicker start off he line plus the various corners were more suited to the new gear ratio, this made it possible to win the race and set another new lap record! 47.862
Sunday and it just did not
stop raining all day long. Team Cameron started from pole
position and won the race convincingly.
The rain by this time was getting harder with no signs of letting off. For the second race on Sunday all the sidecar teams were warned by organisers that there was a lot of standing water around the circuit. Steady away from the start line saw Rob and Andy settle into 4th position. They were soon up to second but it was obvious there was a problem with a sticking throttle slide after the BMW had sucked in so much water from standing puddles (nearly lakes!!) . This made it near impossible to catch the leader with the motor still revving as they entered each corner and on the second to last lap unfortunately Rob and Andy slid off track so their race was over. Both were ok and the sidecar also only had fairing damage. All of the team would like to take this opportunity to thank all who have helped and been involved during a very successful first year racing the BMW.
