The second round of our
championship arrived and a pretty good day
graced the skies for it, run by the South
Birmingham Motorcycle Club in some beautiful
Shropshire countryside.
Rob and Andy needing a good consistent
result had made more alterations to the
sidecar from the previous round and were
looking forward to getting on the podium!
Head angle was altered for more positive
steering as were the front forks replaced
with slightly shorter units.
The trial was one lap of approximately 40
miles including road/highway miles and 30
tough sections, many being “double subs” so
as the team finished one section they had
already started the next (not a lot of rest
time!
There seemed to be one section after another
that went through water (brooks). This did
not deter Rob & Andy as they had some
terrific rides throughout the day both
sporting their new “DAVIDA” supplied custom
painted helmets and GP Leathers riding
suits. They were using a different rear tyre
from there usual and found this to be very
good indeed (more info on this later on the
website).
As these events used to be called
“reliability trials” in the 1960’s when the
motorcycles being used were current models
the bikes really are put through their paces
and this event being especially tough did
take some “victims” but only two in the
sidecar class had to retire. The day ended
with a 3rd place finish which was
a little disappointing but still leaves Rob
& Andy in a comfortable 2nd place
overall in the Championship Standings. Next
round Glos on May 17th.
The engine settings (valve timing) had been
returned to 2008 spec and this was found to
be far better than the first round, it will
be left as is but the team will experiment
with a new camshaft they have commissioned.
Both Rob & Andy would like to again thank
all who are involved with this season and
thank them for their support.
